10 likes & dislikes

Me gusta:

1. Sociology in general (electing to study this in my first year of university has proven to be an excellent life choice)

2. Post-modern feminist queer theory.

3. Eroticised power exchange & control. Power gets me off (usually yielding it) but I’m fascinated by it in a theoretical/academic sense too: particularly by what Foucault & subsequent Foucauldians have to say about it, and particularly by its subversive/creative potential.

4. Consent. Informed consent, that is (not the manufactured kind). While some of my feminist/socialist views sit rather incongruously with libertarianism, I generally believe that anything between consenting* adults is OK - yes, even if it involves cannibalism. (*Although I am fully cognisant of the problems/power relations involved in trying to define consent and what might constitute it.)

5. Being an absolute frickin’ pervert.

6. Carbs.

7. Swag.

8. Not shaving my body hair.

9. The 1990s.

10. People, sometimes.

Me no gusta:

1. Exercise. I tolerate it because I’ll lose my foot to diabeetus if I don’t, but really I would consign it to the 7th circle of hell if I could.

2. Racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, classism, mononormativity, heteronormativity, transphobia, sizeism, ageism. Unchecked privileges. Non-reflexivity. Non-consensual hierarchies.

3. Alcohol. I don’t drink simply because I don’t enjoy it but I couldn’t care less if people around me drink or not.

4. Aubergines. And other slimy vegetables.

5. Actually, I don’t really like vegetables in general. This has terrible repercussions for my diet - and makes me a pitiable vegetarian to boot - but I find the taste and/or texture of most vegetables to be, frankly, ‘yucky’.  (Technical term).

6. Cooking. Thankfully, I have a wonderful partner who not only does most all of the cooking but actually enjoys it too.

7. Body policing (perhaps covered by #2 but I dislike it so much I’ll cite it twice). Other people’s bodies - no matter how fat, skinny, hairy, hairless, make-up clad or makeupless, morbidly obese or anorexic or slutty or repressed you think they are - are.not.your.business. nor your property and you have no right to pass judgement/discuss them as if they are!!!!!

8. My skin. Eczema, dermatillomania, various manifold allergies = orgiastic scratching frenzies that leave me bloodied, sore & even more itchy :’(

9. Psychiatry and most psychiatrists. (not for the reasons Tom Cruise has though - I dislike them because of their non-holistic approach; the pathologising paradagim they work within; their less-than-stellar historical & current treatment of marginalised sexual voices; the encroaching medicalisation & biopolitics that characterises most Western medicine etc etc).

10. People, sometimes.
